Steak and {Gooey} Cheese Bites
Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11:05AM Happy Monday foodie friends! It’s the week before the biggest football game of the season; people around the country are preparing to prop their feet up and stuff their faces for at least an entire day.
That is the best part of the game, right?
I don’t watch much football. I did when I was younger; but even then, I preferred college football. I grew up in a Pittsburgh household; so I grew up supporting all things Pittsburgh. I’ve liked the Pirates when they were the suckiest team in the league – so don’t think I’m one of those people who support an empire because it’s on the top; I came out of the womb looking at Pittsburgh paraphernalia.
However, I was never obsessed. Honestly, I didn’t care. But then I ended up at a small, private liberal arts college in Western Pennsylvania where 80% of the student body stopped everything every Sunday to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers. A Pittsburgh win or loss directly affected the atmosphere in classes on Monday.
Oh and then I decided to get a Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Truly, I did not choose my schools because of their closeness to Heinz Stadium. An outsider may think that, but I assure you I chose my schools because of their reputation. Nevertheless, it’s hard to escape an innate love for Pittsburgh anything when one has been surrounded by Pittsburgh stuff for almost 30 years.
I like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I do not like the New England Patriots.
Take that how you would like to.
I will hopefully be making tons of great food for Sunday, even though I don’t intend to watch much of it. Nick’s buddy is going to be living with us for about a week while he handles some military stuff. #Score. I have an extra body to feed, which justifies making lots of food. Even though I don’t think either of them are too interested in who wins the game.
I figure that I will blog about fun food you can whip up for the game on Sunday. I should tell you that I am all by myself this week; while I will be giving you great game-day recipes, they are going to be scaled down a bit.
Today I have these fabulous Steak and Cheese Bites for you. They are a perfect fit for any Super Bowl Party.

Here is what you will need:
- 1 ounce steak, sliced very thin
- 1 ounce cheese, sliced VERY thin {I would go to the deli & ask them to slice your favorite cheese very, very thin – almost chipped – that way 1 ounce of cheese goes a long way!}
- 6 wonton wrappers
- Hot sauce
- Jalapenos, diced super thin {optional}
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
- Wrap a slice of steak {and a little jalapeno if you’re using it} with a slice of cheese
- Place it in the middle of the wonton wrapper and wrap it tightly, so nothing can escape during the baking process
- Repeat for the remaining wonton wrappers
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 6 to 10 minutes, until slightly bronzed
- Dip in hot sauce and ENJOY!

These were perfect for me. I ate all six and I was pretty stuffed, but that’s because I get full fairly quickly; especially when I eat actual food. When I eat potato chips and candy, I never seem to get full. This is a better & healthier bet for everybody!
It was great to get a crunchy filled wonton that was stuffed with a bite-sized piece of steak and gooey cheese. Seriously, it was the best lunch I’ve had in such a long time & it was SO EASY!
Give them a try, I promise you will NOT regret it.
Until Next Time,
Happy Creating
