Turkey and Hot Sausage Chili with Jalapeño Cornbread!

Happy first day of December!! This is a great dish all year, but seems fitting for our transition towards Winter and the coming days! Nick and I love chili. I blogged about it before and I think we've eaten it a couple of different times when I have not blogged. However, yesterday I made chili with a different twist - utilizing that leftover turkey. You will not be able to move after you fill your stomach with this Turkey and Hot Sausage Chili.

Here are the ingredients you will need:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 or 3 cups of leftover turkey, shredded/pulled apart
  • 12 ounces hot Italian sausage, removed from casings and crumbled
  • 2 teaspoons of Essence
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onions
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 chopped Anaheim chili (or poblano)
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (28 ounce) can chopped tomatoes with their juice
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) diced tomatoes with green chiles
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • shredded cheese
Directions:
  • in a large skillet, heat the oil over medium - high heat.
  • Add the crumbled sausage and cook through. Then add the turkey and 1 tablespoon of the Essence seasoning. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes or until the sausage is no longer ink
  • Put the turkey and sausage in a crock pot and add remaining ingredients [not the cheese] to the crock pot and mix everything together.
  • Cook on high for 3 or 4 hours
  • add some cheese and serve with some cornbread!

I was lucky enough to have some leftover jalapeño cornbread! This paired incredibly well with this chili!! If you do not have any jalapeño cornbread on hand, regular cornbread or some dinner rolls will go well with this.. or even some homemade bread sticks! mmmmm.

I love this recipe and I love the bites of sausage paired with the turkey. It gives the dish a lot of incredible flavors. Not to mention the slight sweetness the brown sugar gives the ENTIRE dish! That's the real secret to any good chili... seriously.

I hope you all enjoy! Until next time, happy cooking!! :)

This Chili was sooo wonderful. It had great flavor and the turkey and sausage gave it just that. This is a new favorite.
